Kanchi Periyavar, widely revered across South India as one of the great Shankaracharyas of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, is remembered for a life of simplicity and scholarship despite his position as one of Hinduism's most respected spiritual heads. This piece sets his portrait within a jharoka, the ornate overhanging window balcony traditionally found on Rajasthani havelis, recreated here in miniature with a projecting canopy and carved pillars.
