Thanjavur doll is a traditional handicraft of Thanjavur region of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is an ancient art of 19th century during the regime of Saraboji’s Kingdom.
This doll consists of four parts: the head, torso, skirt, and base. Once all parts of the doll are assembled, even the most gentle tap on the skirt will allow the doll to oscillate, transforming it into a beautiful dancer.
