Raas Leela Square Box - Pattachitra Wooden Gift Box

Under a moonlit Vrindavan sky, Krishna multiplies himself to dance with each of the Gopis in a great encircling ring — the Raas Leela, one of the most cherished episodes in Vaishnav devotional lore. This square wooden box carries that scene on its lid, rendered in Pattachitra, the scroll-painting tradition practised for centuries in the artisan villages of Raghurajpur and Puri in Odisha.

Pattachitra begins long before the brush touches wood. A canvas is built up from cloth layered with tamarind-seed paste and fine clay, burnished smooth, then painted freehand with natural pigments in a palette of ochre, indigo and vermilion, each figure outlined in confident black. Along the sides of this box, the ten incarnations of Vishnu unfold in miniature, framing the central dance with the full arc of divine descent.

It makes a considered gift for a housewarming, a Diwali gift, or anyone who keeps their jewellery, keys or small keepsakes somewhere that deserves a second look. On a console table or a study shelf, it reads as much as a devotional artwork as it does storage.
