Kerala Mural Hand-Painted Triangle Pendant Necklace – Orange Stupa Chakra Pearl
Description
The stupa and the chakra are two of the most ancient symbolic forms in Indian sacred geometry. The stupa — dome-shaped, pointing heavenward — represents the enlightened mind and the passage from material existence to the divine. The chakra — the wheel or disc — represents cosmic order, the turning of time, and in the Vaishnava tradition, the divine weapon of Vishnu. When these forms appear together in Indian sacred art, they carry layers of meaning that accumulate across traditions.
This downward triangle pendant is painted in warm terracotta-orange with a large white stupa-chakra circular medallion at its centre — a bold, wheel-like form with layered circular geometry and a dot at its core. Surrounding the medallion, orange scroll flourishes fill the triangle's surface in the Kerala Mural's characteristic botanical-geometric hybrid vocabulary. The composition is pattern-forward rather than figurative — no deity face, no narrative scene, but a complete and visually satisfying sacred geometry in the folk painting tradition.
The pearl cluster chain is the deliberate choice for this pendant. Two pearl cluster barrel beads — each formed from dozens of tiny pearls wound tightly together — sit on either side of the pendant attachment, suspended on a black rope with small black and gold accent beads. The white pearls directly echo the white of the stupa-chakra medallion on the pendant, creating a visual through-line between chain and painted surface that makes the necklace feel composed rather than assembled.
Kerala Mural painting's five-colour panchavarnam palette — red ochre, green, yellow, black, and white — is at its most striking when used in high contrast. This pendant's terracotta-orange ground against the pure white medallion is that contrast at its sharpest. The painting tradition's discipline means that the white is not background but active form — the medallion commands the surface the way a deity face would in a figurative composition.
