Description

The Pardhan Gond community of Madhya Pradesh paints from a simple belief: everything alive carries a spirit, and a good picture should let that spirit show through. Their deer, gentle-eyed and alert, is built entirely from tiny dots and flowing lines, a technique locally called digna, until the animal seems to hum with the same energy as the forest it came from.

Our artists recreate that dot-and-line detailing by hand on solid mango wood, layering colour and pattern the way Gond painters have for generations. The result is sealed for everyday use, whether that means carrying it to the table for snacks or letting it stand as a piece of tribal folk art in its own right.

It suits anyone drawn to nature-inspired art with a story, and travels well as a gift for a new home or a festive occasion.

Material: Solid Mango Wood, hand-painted and sealed

Dimensions: 35 cm x 23 cm x 6 cm

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gond art, and where does it come from?
Gond art originates with the Pardhan Gond community of Madhya Pradesh. It's known for filling animal and nature motifs with intricate dot-and-line patterning, rooted in the belief that all living things carry a spirit.

Is the tray safe for serving food?
Yes, it has a food-safe sealed finish suitable for dry snacks and fruit. We'd suggest not leaving liquids to sit on the surface for long periods.

How do I clean it?
Use a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth only. Avoid the dishwasher, running water, and abrasive cleaners, which can affect the hand-painted detailing over time.

Will the dot-work look identical to the product photos?
It will be very close in style and composition, but since each dot pattern is applied by hand, minute variations are normal and are part of what makes it a genuine piece of Gond art rather than a print.

Is this suitable as a gift for someone who loves nature or wildlife themes?
Very much so. The deer motif and the tribal art style tend to appeal strongly to anyone who appreciates nature-led design.

Can this be displayed instead of used as a serving tray?
Yes, it works equally well propped up as standalone tabletop art if you'd rather not use it functionally.

How should I store it when not in use?
Keep it somewhere dry and out of direct sun to protect the painted surface and colour vibrancy over the years.
