Meenakshi, the fish-eyed goddess of Madurai, is one of South India's most fiercely loved deities — a warrior queen who ruled in her own right before her divine marriage to Shiva, still worshipped today at the Meenakshi Amman Temple, one of the largest temple complexes in the country.
