Tholu Bommalatha is the leather shadow puppet art of Andhra Pradesh — one of the oldest performing art traditions in South India, with roots in the Ramayana and Mahabharata storytelling tradition. The puppets are made from translucent goat leather, carved and painted in brilliant colours, and held against a lit screen to cast moving, coloured shadow stories. The visual language of Tholu Bommalatha is densely floral and botanical: the puppet bodies and backgrounds are filled with intricate flower, leaf, and scroll motifs that fill every available space with ornament.

This diamond-on-point pendant translates that botanical density onto a wooden surface. The tree of life motif — pink, orange, and red flowers, green leaves, and paisley-shaped fruit emerging from a central trunk — is painted on a cream/ivory ground with an orange border. At the very top of the tree, a small temple or shrine structure is visible among the flowers, a Tholu Bommalatha convention that places the sacred within the natural world. The red dot-and-dash border around the diamond's edges is characteristic of the art form's decorative framing convention.
