The Trishul — Shiva's trident — needs no face to communicate its meaning. It is one of the most immediately recognisable symbols in the Hindu tradition: three prongs representing creation, preservation, and destruction; or past, present, and future; or the three qualities (tamas, rajas, sattva) that the divine transcends. It is a symbol worn by Shaivites, carried at pilgrimage sites, painted on temple walls, and tattooed on devotees across South Asia. What is remarkable about this necklace is not the symbol but the construction. The pendant is a full Trishul shape — the trident's upper portion with the three prongs at the top, the shaft below — cut from wood, painted in terracotta/brick red with white dot detailing along the edges and prongs. The rope does not hang from the Trishul as a pendant hangs from a chain. The rope passes through the Trishul — the lower prong section threads through the terracotta braided cord, which loops around the shaft at the crossing point and is bound there with gold thread wrapping and small tassel ends.
