Pattachitra Hand-Painted Square Pendant Necklace – Dancing Ganesha Layered
Description
The moment Ganesha dances, obstacles dissolve. In Pattachitra — the scroll painting tradition of Odisha dating back to the 12th century — a dancing Ganesha is not merely decorative. It is a moment of divine movement captured in the fluid, precise line style of one of India's oldest narrative art forms.
This pendant is painted on a square section of pre-engineered wood, sealed black before the artist begins. Against that deep ground, the Pattachitra Ganesha emerges in his full-body dance form — multiple arms in graceful classical positions, an ornate jewelled crown, green leaf motifs, and the characteristic Pattachitra detailing of crisp outlines and saturated natural colour tones. The composition gives you the complete figure in motion rather than the deity face alone, which means the pendant carries a genuinely different visual weight and story.
The layered double-strand chain is the second distinctive element. Yellow jade beads form the upper strand; red coral rounds the lower. Painted barrel bead accents and a round black enamel connector button join the two strands before they reach the pendant. Gold triangle cone caps add a temple-gold finish at the joins. The double strand frames a larger pendant beautifully, giving visual balance to the square's width.
Pattachitra paintings have traditionally depicted scenes from the lives of Jagannath, Krishna, and Ganesha, often made by the Chitrakara artisan community of Puri, Odisha. The art form received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Government of India, confirming its origin and authenticity. What you are wearing here is a direct, respectful translation of that heritage — painted by hand in Bangalore by an artist trained in its tradition, not printed, not mechanically reproduced.
