The pendant is a functional wooden comb — an object designed to be used — painted in folk scroll style along its arch-shaped top section with black motifs and colourful dotted detailing. The comb teeth extend below in natural wood, finished but unpainted, ready to use. The entire comb — painted header and functional teeth — is hung on a thick black braided cord in choker style, with small gold lotus charm studs embedded at intervals along the cord.

The lotus charms are not merely decorative. The lotus — Padma — is the symbol of purity emerging from the material world, the seat of Lakshmi and Saraswati, the motif that appears at the threshold between everyday life and the sacred in Indian visual culture.
